Overview
The Capsule Project was born out of the Michal Sela Forum's annual hackathon, which aimed to promote technological ideas to prevent violence against women.
Goal
The Challenge
Solution
The solution was to create a user-friendly reporting system that makes it easy for victims of violence to report incidents, and for the police to access and analyze these reports.
The system would use advanced data analysis techniques to identify patterns of violence and potential serial attackers, allowing for organized and professional action to be taken to treat and curb the attacker.
Who’s Gonna Use It?
Police officer
Difficulty identifying early signs of violence- In many cases, there are no direct complaints or clear evidence- only subtle signs or gut feelings, making it hard to make informed decisions.
Information overload and lack of deep analysis- Investigators handle many cases simultaneously, including reports, testimonies, and messages- yet current systems don’t always help connect the dots.
Pressure to make quick decisions under uncertainty- Investigators often have to make critical calls—like whether to arrest or issue restraining orders—without enough time or data to support them.
Reflection
The Capsule project was a meaningful and challenging experience. We had to think creatively to make complex information user-friendly. Despite scheduling hurdles due to our busy work lives, collaborating with a talented team was invaluable. I'm proud to have contributed to such an important endeavor and look forward to its impact.
